Liquid Earth was an experimental 5 day workshop organised over Summer '18.
The workshop aimed to create an eccentric portrait of a stretch of coastline by studying two stratified seams in the area: a seam of pottery clay – at the back of a local beach – and a seam of plastic which is being buried along the high-tide line.
We spent time over the workshop making plaster casts from the plastic remnants of these previously useful objects. We learned how to work with the local clay and used it to take copies from these molds. While we worked, people with particular perspectives on landscape visited the workshop and offered their insights into the local surroundings. A geologist, a field archaeologist and a local naturalist visited and shared their knowledge with us.
